One of the most valuable soft skills in investing is "pattern recognition." It's one of the more intuition-based skills sought after in an otherwise scientific field.
Most of the time it means being able to intuit market outcomes based on prior experiences. But it can also be used to describe a simple way of identifying great new investments - by looking for investment "setups" that are similar to those you've had success with previously.
One of the main reasons we are so excited to launch Offshore, our new international strategy, is because world-class businesses and investment opportunities don't just exist in the U.S. We see similar setups abroad.
In fact, many of the best businesses around the world look very similar to the best companies in the U.S. despite significant cultural differences. These are companies that, like many of the businesses we currently own, are dictating the futures of their industries. They're backed by strong secular growth tailwinds and led by brilliant management teams who think like capital allocators.
Despite running their operations 1000s of miles away, these businesses have investment setups very similar to the ones we've had success with amongst our U.S. holdings. That's why we've spent 100s of hours doing research to identify the overseas equities most deserving of your capital.
